Recovering from a painful divorce left me with a desire to get back to what makes me feel alive – creativity. With my newfound freedom as a single gal, I wanted to take risks and venture into hobbies that were never really pursued during my married life. One of my endeavors has evolved into what is now known as the Squat-N-Gobble, an underground eatery in my apartment.
The SnG all started as a way to feed my neighbors and to fulfill my passion for cooking. In the beginning there were three or four friends coming over a few nights a week dining on whatever culinary delights I felt like experimenting with. Someone suggested I call the rogue restaurant the Squat-N-Gobble and I made a Facebook page. Originally, I had about 20 fans on the Facebook page and today there are about 130 thanks to people taking an interest and supporting my efforts.
The growth of the SnG is attributed to the writings of a food critic from the New Times (a publication for Broward and Palm Beach County) and interviews on the Paul and Young Ron radio show. My friends were very excited about the food critic coming to dine with us but we had no idea if he would write about his experience. I was on my honeymoon in Maui (sans husband) when I learned that he published a beautiful article about the SnG, I couldn’t believe it! A month or so later, the Paul and Young Ron Morning Show, caught wind of the article and sent two of their employees -- social experimental subject OMG Mike and the mildly handsome webmaster, Webby -- to see what all the fuss was about. I was interviewed twice and the radio hosts discussed the intrigue of the restaurant.
It is very exciting to watch such a simple hobby grow and progress into something larger. Everyday I receive an email from a stranger expressing interest in coming to my home and trying my food. It has inspired me to learn more about food, the art of cooking, and to become better at what I enjoy – feeding people. I am breathing proof that there is life after loss and that you should pursue whatever it is that makes you happy. I don’t know what the future may bring for the SnG, but I am having a lot of fun experimenting with ways to fulfill my imaginative side. Thanks for all the support!

I've said it a couple time but I'll say it again... you are amazing! Such an inspiration! :o) I'm wish I was closer to Ft Laud so I could come and eat at the SnG!!!!
